I have tried many places in Prague that pour Urquell Pilsner, but somehow this place serves the best pour. The food is super traditional, the staff seem like the honest type. I just can't get enough of this place. If you like real beer and local atmosphere I can't recommend this place enough. Cash only, but euros are ok.

Juuuuust off the main path and obscure enough to keep the tourists out. This cash only beer hall is exactly what I wanted to experience in Prague. The place has a soul to it. Locals fill the place. The beer is fresh, ther service is good and the food is good for the price. Pictured is the pork steak with roquefort sauce and slaw in a brown gravy.

U Zlatého Tygra is an absolute must-visit in Prague. Authentic Czech atmosphere, incredible beer served perfectly fresh, and a place full of history and character. You can truly feel the spirit of old Prague here. The service was fast, the atmosphere lively, and the experience unforgettable. Easily one of the best traditional pubs I’ve ever visited.

Walking into U Zlatého tygra, which translates to “At the Golden Tiger”, I knew it was one of Prague’s more famous pubs, built entirely around beer and the people who come to drink it. The rhythm reveals itself quickly, a paper tab, constant pours, and a system that doesn’t require explanation. The entrance is understated to the point where I genuinely thought the door couldn’t be the door, or that it might be closed. I was by myself but was plonked on one of the big tables next to a a couple of local couples. The next table over were some Americans who had found this place last time and brought their brothers in for an authentic Czech beer experience - which is exactly what this is. The first Pilsner Urquell arrived almost as soon as I was seated. I was very happy to be here. I wasn’t overly hungry, but wanted to try some of their snacks. I went with the Utopenec (like a hotdog style sausage with pickled vegetables and onions, sharp, simple and good with beer) and Pivní sýr (beer cheese with mustard and onion, spread onto bread). On their own, nothing to write home about, but as the beer flows, they really do add something. What makes this place special isn’t just that it’s “authentic”, but that it’s that it hasn’t really changed. No polish, no performance, just a system that works and has done for decades. The old Czech couple who helped me order the “right” snacks told me the big TV with the football on, was a fairly recent addition and it used to be a beautiful portrait of the owner. They weren’t big fans of the TV, but there were a few people their watching the game. I loved being here and could have stayed drinking for a lot longer than I did. Can definitely recommend it as a cool place to go for beer done the right way in Prague.
