Description

Czech lager is best when it’s fresh and it doesn’t come fresher than when it’s drawn at the brewery. A few of Prague’s newly re-opened microbreweries, set in 18th-century ambience, are resurrecting the thousand-year-old tradition of brewing in Bohemia. On this 4-hour tour, we start with a tour of the Strahov Monastery of the Royal Canonry of Premonstratensians, one of the oldest of this order. You'll journey behind-the-ropes of the glorious Baroque Stahov Library for a full 30 minutes, which most travelers see only from the door. PLEASE NOTE THE ADDITIONAL RESERVATION FEE AT THE LIBRARY: 2000 CZK (approx $85) PER GROUP & 700 CZK (approx $30) per person, payable in cash at the venue. Then you’ll venture out just beyond the walls of Strahov, and from this hill overlooking Prague Castl you’ll have breathtaking views of the city before a glass of St. Norbert's micro-brew at the brewery and restaurant located where the New Brewery was built in 1628, and operated until 1907. Also on the itinerary is a visit to Břevnovský Klášterní Pivovar, the oldest male monastery in Bohemia, founded in 993. The monastery’s church of St. Margaret, built from 1708 to 1735, is one of the best architectural examples of the Czech Baroque. Taste flights of the beers made at the monastery brewery of the Black Monks, and see and learn how they are made, in the restored Baroque stables. The program can include either a beer tea at the brewery or lunch/dinner at the stylish Klášterní Šenk that not only serves the house beers, but also offers up great food.
