It is necessary to go through it in order to equalize the water level on the Vltava and show guests more than just a short loop from the dock to Charles Bridge. This is a standard procedure for all guests taking cruises longer than one hour, and it applies to all boats operating on the Vltava for cruises of two hours or more.
