What to know about Prague stays

If you want to feel the city like a local, think beyond the Old Town. Neighborhoods like Vinohrady or Karlín have a ton of charm and are super well connected by Metro or tram. It’s not unusual to find a beautifully restored Art Nouveau building converted into apartments or small boutique hotels there.

One of my favorite spots is the Embassy Garden Hotel in Vinohrady. It’s peaceful, stylish, and just a short walk from Náměstí Míru Metro station. Staying there means you’re minutes away from beautiful parks and cafe culture but still only a quick ride from the tourist buzz. Plus, off-season prices there can be really reasonable compared to city-center hotels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about staying in Prague? Here’s what locals often get asked.

If it’s your first time, Old Town or Malá Strana are great choices because you’re close to most sights. But if you want to escape crowds at night, consider staying a bit further like in Vinohrady,it’s lively but more laid-back.
That really depends on your style. Apartments give you space and the chance to cook, which saves money. Hotels often come with perks like daily cleaning and concierge services. I usually pick apartments when I stay longer or want to shop at local markets.
If you’re visiting in high season, like spring or during Christmas markets, book at least two to three months ahead. Prague is popular and rooms fill up fast. For winter or quieter months, you can often wait a few weeks.
Prague is generally very safe, even after dark. The city center is busy and well-lit. Just like anywhere, keep an eye on your belongings, especially in nightlife areas like Žižkov.
Yes, but Prague’s airport area isn’t very lively or charming. If you have an early flight, staying near the airport can be convenient, but most travelers prefer staying in the city center or neighborhoods with easy metro access for the full experience.
Many do, but quality varies a lot. Some offer simple continental options while others serve more hearty Czech breakfasts. A tip: check recent reviews, because places sometimes change their menu or switch to buffet style during peak season.
