Description
Begin your tour at the meeting point close to stop Pohorelec, at the statue of Saint Nepomuk, followed by the Strahov Monastery, including its magnificent library containing unique medieval manuscripts.
Continue through the New World Lane, a picturesque and historical district in Prague's Hradčany district, known for its winding streets, small houses and a peaceful atmosphere that contrasts with the hustle and bustle of tourist routes.
From the New World Lane, move down to Hradcanske Square where you can see many historical buildings linked to the rich Czech history standing in the very neighborhood of Prague Castle. Two highlights are Saint Vitus Cathedral, a Gothic Catholic metropolitan cathedral in Prague and the seat of the Archbishop of Prague, and the Basilica of Saint George, the oldest surviving church building within Prague Castle.
After the walkthrough of the impressive Castle complex, continue through to the Golden Lane, another historical street with cosy and tiny houses, which are filled with gift shops, cafes and much more. From Hradčany hill, descend Staré zámecké schody (Old Castle Stairs) and reach the district Malá Strana or Lesser Town.
After descending to Lesser Town, visit Valdstejn Garden. The garden contains four fountains, several relief vases and copies of original sculptures by Dutch sculptor Adriaen de Vries.
The tour ends with a short walk to the Malostranske Square, which is the only incline route throughout the tour, of about nine meters. The square offers many restaurant and cafe options, as well as multiple public transport options. If you feel like you've not had enough, you can continue, already on your own, to visit the Saint Nicholas church.
