The small fortess was built-in the 18th century by Emperor Joseph II. During WWII the fortress served as a Gestapo Police prison and Jewish ghetto and concentration camp. The Ghetto Museum opened in 1994 and is home to a permanent exhibition devoted to the history of the political prison and the persecution of the Czech nation under the Nazi regime.
