Description
The meeting point is directly at the streetcar stop 'Pražský hrad' (Prague Castle) (streetcar line no. 22 or 23, direction 'Bílá hora'). Your guide, Mr. Robert Procházka, will be waiting for you at the 'Pražský hrad' (Prague Castle) stop. During a three-hour guided tour in German, you will visit St. Vitus Cathedral, the old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica and the Golden Lane with the historian, Mr. Procházka. The guided tour ends in the Golden Lane. The grounds of the breathtaking Prague Castle, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the entire city, are even listed in the Guinness Book as the largest enclosed castle grounds in the world. St. Vitus Cathedral is the burial and coronation site of Bohemian kings. The oldest predecessor building, a Romanesque rotunda, was founded around 925. The most important patron saints of the country, such as St. Wenceslas and St. Adalbert, are buried in the cathedral. The cathedral is a masterpiece of 14th century Gothic architecture. A spiral staircase leads from the Wenceslas Chapel, decorated with semi-precious stones, where the remains of St. Wenceslas rest in a Gothic shrine, to the crown chamber, where the coronation regalia are kept. In the Royal Palace you can see a replica of the Bohemian crown jewels, visit the largest late Gothic throne room in Central Europe and the site of the Third Defenestration of Prague (State Chancellery), which started the Thirty Years' War. St. George's Basilica from the 10th century houses the tomb of St. Ludmila, grandmother of St. Wenceslas, who was strangled to death by Viking warriors on behalf of her daughter-in-law. The picturesque Golden Lane will take you back to the 16th century. Emperor Rudolf II's alchemists were there in search of an elixir of life and tried to produce gold from lead. The famous Prague writer Franz Kafka also lived in one of the little houses.Includes
