Description
Most evenings in Prague end at a restaurant. This one begins somewhere better.
Celebrity Chef Mariko, a Los Angeles culinary personality who spent years cooking privately for Hollywood's A-list before bringing those techniques to Prague, hosts a 5-course dinner in her light-filled 19th-century studio overlooking the Vltava, at the foot of the Vyšehrad fortress. The river sets the scene.
What happens at the table makes the evening.
Mariko's cooking draws on a life lived across continents: the precision of private Hollywood kitchens, the spice markets of India, the clean flavors of Southeast Asia, and the exceptional seasonal produce she sources here in the Czech Republic. The result is food that feels both refined and completely alive.
You arrive to a welcome drink, choosing from Czech wines, prosecco, or craft zero-proof spritzers, alongside a generous charcuterie and cheese spread featuring some of the finest Czech producers. It is the kind of welcome that tells you right away this evening will be different.
From there, the menu unfolds across five courses.
A grilled romaine salad with smoked seeds and seasonal garnish.
A saffron risotto, made with saffron Mariko sources herself on her travels through India, prepared with seasonal additions that change through the year: fresh peas in spring, truffle in autumn, carrot gremolata when the mood calls for it.
A choice of main: locally raised Czech filet mignon with a rosemary garlic balsamic reduction, or herb-baked salmon with garden-fresh herbs. Vegetarian on request.
And to finish, a signature flourless chocolate torte with seasonal fruit and vanilla bean gelato.
Throughout the evening, Mariko cooks in full view. Guests are welcome to pull up to the open kitchen, ask questions, and watch each course come together. The conversation moves naturally, from the stories behind each dish to the ingredients she has carried back from her travels, to what it means to cook for people who have everything and still want something different but familiar.
Czech wines and craft zero-proof spritzers flow freely throughout. The Czech Republic is one of Europe's quietly growing wine regions, and Mariko uses the evening to introduce guests to producers and varietals most visitors never encounter. It is one more layer of discovery in an evening that already has plenty.
When the season allows, the evening opens onto the terrace for sundowner drinks above the river.
Most guests leave saying Mariko's dinner was the highlight of their trip to Prague.
