Description
Karlovy Vary, founded in the 14th century by Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, is a renowned spa town located northwest of Prague. The town developed around natural thermal springs discovered during a royal hunting trip and has hosted notable figures such as Goethe, Beethoven, and Mozart, as well as film stars attending its major European film festival.
Experience the authentic spa atmosphere by walking along the Teplá stream through the historical center. Visit healing springs and elegant colonnades like Mlýnská and Tržní. See landmarks including the magnificent theatre, Císařské lázně, and the Church of St. Mary Magdalene. The hottest spring, Vřídlo, reaches 72 degrees Celsius, so exercise caution near it.
Enhance your visit by climbing Diana Tower for panoramic views of the town. Consider purchasing local products such as Moser glassworks, Thun Karlovy Vary porcelain, or the herbal Becherovka liqueur, often called the town’s 13th spring.
