Description
Most visitors to Prague focus on the castle and Old Town, but locals spend Saturday mornings at Náplavka Farmers Market. Few tourists experience it this way.
Chef Mariko, a Los Angeles culinary professional who cooked for Hollywood A-listers and established one of Prague’s sought-after dining experiences, leads you through the market as she shops. She points out which vendors to visit, seasonal ingredients worth splurging on, and which items to taste before cooking.
As the market livens with the aromas of fresh bread, roasted coffee, and flowers, you sample oysters, local cheeses, cured meats, and produce. Choose a spiced cider, cappuccino, or local craft beer. Mariko shares the stories behind the producers, traditions, and ingredients that define Czech food culture. Guests help select ingredients for that day’s brunch menu.
The menu is never fixed in advance. Together with Mariko, you pick the freshest market items and decide the dishes you will cook.
After shopping, a short walk along the river leads to Mariko’s bright 19th-century studio near Vyšehrad fortress, offering views of the Vltava and Prague Castle. In summer, the terrace opens; in winter, the open kitchen provides warmth and inviting aromas of herbs, espresso, and fresh baking.
The cooking class is hands-on and paced to be approachable. The menu changes weekly but typically includes a market charcuterie and cheese board, freshly baked fruit clafoutis made from scratch, and a full brunch of farm eggs, local meats, seasonal produce, and warm bread with house-made jams and pestos.
Prosecco is served throughout the experience. Espresso, artisan teas, and non-alcoholic craft beverages are also available from arrival to the final course.
By the time you sit down to eat, you will have seen a side of Prague that most visitors miss, learned useful cooking techniques, and shared a relaxed morning with Mariko and a small international group.
