Description
Prague’s Old Jewish Quarter, also known as Josefov, dates back to 1096 and is one of the best-preserved Jewish ghettos in Europe. Situated between Old Town Square and the Vltava River, the area features many important Jewish heritage sites.
The 2-hour walking tour starts in front of the World of Franz Kafka exhibition and covers key sites such as the Maisel Synagogue, Pinkas Synagogue with its Holocaust memorial, the Rudolfinum, and the Jewish Town Hall. You will also see the Old-New Synagogue, Europe's oldest active synagogue, and hear the legend of the Golem. The tour includes the Spanish Synagogue exterior and notable Prague landmarks linked to Franz Kafka.
The 3-hour tour includes skip-the-line access to the Spanish Synagogue. This Moorish-style synagogue showcases a 19th-century interior with intricate arabesques, gilt decorations, and a well-preserved Torah ark. The exhibit covers Jewish history from the Enlightenment to the present day.
The 4-hour option adds the Old Jewish Cemetery, home to 12,000 tombstones layered due to limited space. This 15th-century cemetery is one of the oldest Jewish burial sites in the world.
The 6-hour option offers a comprehensive experience with visits to the Spanish Synagogue, Old Jewish Cemetery, and the Old-New Synagogue on Parizska Street. The Gothic synagogue from 1270 features vaulted interiors, medieval furnishings, and a historic Jewish flag.
